It still exists and demand is even rising again: the piston compressor. During intake, intake air flows into the cylinder via the suction valve by downward movement of the piston. After closing the suction valve, compression occurs by upward movement of the piston until the discharge valve opens.
High delivery rates are achieved by several cylinders and higher discharge pressures are achieved by successively connected compressor stages.

Piston compressors for PET bottle production, 40 bar
For the production of PET bottles, piston compressors are used whose compression chamber remains completely without oil injection. This means that the compressed air produced cannot be contaminated with oil - provided that the intake air is oil-free.
This property is particularly in demand in PET bottle production as part of the food and beverage industry. Technical systems for the compression of CO2 can also be set up with this series.
